Here are a few key steps aspirants can take to ensure they score well in physics and chemistry in NEET UG.
The National Testing Agency conducts the NEET UG exam, which is a highly competitive test that assesses an aspirant’s knowledge in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Being an all-India pre-medical entrance exam for students wishing to pursue undergraduate medical, dental, and AYUSH courses in India, Biology carries the most weight. However, aspirants are required to attempt both Chemistry and Physics sections to qualify and secure a good rank.
For most aspirants of NEET UG, Biology tends to be their strongest section, thus resulting in them putting less time to complete portions of subjects like Physics and Chemistry. However, they can master the two subjects without compromising too much with regular practice.

1. TIME DIVISION
For NEET UG, Biology may be the subject that aspirants pay the most attention to, but it is also important for them to denote specific hours to Chemistry and Physics to ensure a balanced approach.
A generic thumb rule could be the 2-2-4 ratio. Taking two hours to complete portions of Physics and Chemistry each and 4 for Biology
2. DETAIL-DRIVEN STUDY
Given the relatively short period committed to Physics and Chemistry, aspirants need to ensure they are thorough and cover the chapters in great detail. Furthermore, to avoid revisiting books repeatedly, they should create personal notes that enable them to revise faster and more efficiently.
3. QUESTION-SOLVING
Since Physics and Chemistry are complex subjects and have equations and theories to remember, it requires practice to master both. Therefore, aspirants should allocate time for chapter-based question solving with special priority to the previous year’s questions and NCERT sample questions after the completion of every chapter.
4. ANALYSE THE PATTERN
The fastest way to crack an exam and understand the importance of different topics in a subject is by analysing its PYQs. PYQs can guide aspirants on which portions to give the most attention. First, by studying the previous year’s questions, aspirants need to analyze which topics carry the highest number of questions. Then, high-yielding topics must be revised.
5. FORMULA SHEETS
A formula sheet can go a long way to enhancing recall and creating a visual reminder. This is why aspirants must keep a handy formula sheet to revise every day. After completing a chapter, an aspirant can make a formula sheet of it. This becomes critical, especially for Physics and Chemistry preparation for NEET UG.
6. RE-VISIT ERRORS
When aspirants undertake mock exams, a lot of times, they focus only on the score. However, they should take a keen look at their errors and go back to the theory to understand the concept of the mistakes they make.
Solving questions on a topic an aspirant is repeatedly making mistakes is advisable. Therefore, Physics and Chemistry concepts must be cleared out in advance, primarily through mock tests.
7. MOCK TEST FOR PREPARATION
Practicing mock tests is the first step toward assessing one’s NEET UG preparation. Aspirants must attempt at least 8 to 15 Physics and Chemistry mock tests before the exam. This will ease them into the exam pattern, thus reducing panic and steering them clear of making silly mistakes.
