MeT Predicts Dry Weather In J&K Till Sunday
SRINAGAR: After four days of rain and snowfall, the weather improved in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on Saturday as the meteorological department forecast dry weather till Sunday.
“Weather has improved across J&K and Ladakh. We are expecting dry weather during the next 24 hours,” an official of the MET department said.
Incessant rains during the last four days have swollen all the rivers in the valley.
In order to allay the fears of the general public, the administration issued an advisory on Saturday to dispel fears of any impending flood in Kashmir.
“All the rivers in the valley are flowing below the normal level. There is no apprehension of flood anywhere in the valley because of the recent rainfall,” an official advisory said.
He said that Gulmarg, the famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district received 45 centimetres of fresh snowfall in the last 24 hours.
Rain and snow have hit parts of the Kashmir valley intermittently since Sunday, bringing down the temperatures.
Gulmarg, the famous skiing resort in north Kashmir was the coldest place in the Valley where the minimum temperature was minus 2.6 degrees Celsius.
Srinagar, the summer capital of the state recorded a low of 3.8 degrees Celsius while Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded a low of 2.1 degree Celsius.
The night temperature in Pahalgam – the famous health resort which also serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra – settled at a low of minus 0.7 degrees.
Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of minus 0.3 degrees Celsius last night while Qazigund in south Kashmir recorded a low of 3.7 degree Celsius.
Jammu city recorded 13.5 degrees Celsius, Katra 10.7, Batote 3.7, Banihal recorded 3.0 and Bhaderwah recorded 2.0 degrees Celsius as the night’s lowest temperatures
