Kashmiri language, language spoken in the Vale of Kashmir and the surrounding hills. By origin it is a Dardic language, but it has become predominantly Indo-Aryan in character. Some scholars opine that kashmiri is an Indo-Aryan language and is related to Sanskrit in the some way as other modern Indian languages viz-a-viz Assamese, Bengali, Dogri, Hindi, Gujarati, Punjabi etc are. According to this concept Kashmiri is related to these languages as a sister language.
