Srinagar, Mar 13: The elementary classes from KG upto fifth standards in Kashmir division schools will resume for physical academic activities from Monday.
Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK), Muhammad Younis Malik said that the schools in Kashmir division reopened in a staggered manner in order to prevent students and staff from getting infected.
In the academic year 2020, less than 10 percent regular educational activities were held in Schools of Kashmir Valley following the outbreak of COVID-19 in March this year.
In the beginning of the academic year, the School Education Department had announced winter vacations for all schools from 10 December 2019 and subsequently on 24 February 2020, the schools were re-opened.
However on March 11, the government of Jammu and Kashmir ordered closure of all academic institutions, including schools, colleges and universities across the Union Territory.
Teachers of government-run-schools said that in the year 2020, less than 20 regular formal school days were conducted in the educational establishments.
Last week the government said physical academic activities for upper primary classes from 6th to 8th will remain unchanged and will reopen on the scheduled time on March 8 while the classes of Kindergartens upto fifth standard will reopen from March 15 instead of March 8.
Earlier, the government had said that the schools upto 8th standard will reopen on March 8 while the schools of secondary school from 9th to 12th classes reopened on March 1.
Pertinently, at least 9 officials of GD Goenka were tested positive for COVID-19 and one of the principals of government schools in Srinagar was also tested positive.“`
