BSNL: 5G Network, Satellite-Based Internet

We had previously reported that Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) may switch to 4G network by the end of the year 2022, said Minister of State (MoS) for Communications said Devusinh Chauhan on Monday.

Chauhan also said the 5G spectrum will be rolled out by end of this year all over India. The minister added that the government is setting up the infrastructure for the 5G spectrum, which will soon see auctions. A lot of people have expressed their apprehensions about health hazards related to mobile towers. However, there has been no scientific backing for these claims.

Recently, the Department of Telecommunications has amended the ‘sui-generis’ category license granted to government-owned BSNL.According to this amended clause, DoT for BSNL said, “the licensee may also provide satellite-based data connectivity to the IoT devices/aggregator devices.”

This amendment is for the provision and operation of Satellite-based services using a gateway installed in India.
