Private Schools Cannot Increase Fees: CM Bhagwant Mann
These two new rules will be effective in the coming academic session.
We have previously shared that in a recent move to further and bolster the education in Delhi, the government of AAP, which is also reigning over Punjab, has planned to set aside Rs 10 crore to set up a boarding school for children from homeless families living on the roadside, footpaths, under flyovers and stairs, or in open places of worship, pavilions, and railway platforms, who are deprived of basic facilities like shelter, food, and education.
The party hopes to make its foray into other states using this model. In Punjab, where it recorded a thumping win, education reforms had featured prominently in its election manifesto.
Additionally, the CM has stated that private schools cannot increase their fees even by a rupee. He has also issued a video statement about the same.
In the video, he said, “The government will frame a detailed school fee policy after discussion with stakeholders, including parents of schoolchildren and principals of private schools.” He highlighted that education needs to made affordable.
Schools Cannot Specify Shops To Buy Uniforms And Books
As per the chief minister, private schools will not be able to specify any particular shop to buy books and uniforms.
As per Mann, “Parents will have the choice to buy books and uniforms from any shop they want. We will announce a detailed policy soon.”
Both the decisions will come into effect immediately.
During the lockdown in 2020, The Punjab government had announced its decision to broadcast the curriculum of state-run schools on DD Punjabi channel. The decision to broadcast the curriculum had been taken to prevent the students from losing class times and missing out on studies due to the lockdown.
