TikTok India Launch Soon Will Come As TickTock Check Now

TikTok India may soon make a comeback to India soon as a rebranded TickTock. The parent company ByteDance has filed for a trademark in the country for the same name. Recently PUBG Mobile made its way to India again since the ban with a new name, Battlegrounds Mobile India. Now in a similar fashion we may see TikTok launching in India with the name TickTock. The short video social media platform has been massively popular in the country, and since the ban, several similar India-made apps cropped up.

Instagram also launched Reels and it became an instant hit following the same vertical short video format as TikTok.

ByteDance filed the trademark for the new TikTok name in India with the title TickTock on July 6.

Leaked by tipster Mukul Sharma on Twitter, the parent company filed the new name under Class 42 of the Fourth Schedule to Trade Mark Rules, 2002, which means it can be used for “scientific and technological services and research and design relating thereto; industrial analysis and research services; design and development of computer hardware and software.”

It’s not the first time, several earlier rumors suggested ByteDance will be bringing TikTok to India again with a new name and a wholly established subsidiary in the country. Now with Krafton successfully launching PUBG Mobile in India with a new name, TikTok making a comeback won’t be a big surprise.

But, in the case of ByteDance, the story could be a little different. Unlike Krafton, which is a South Korean gaming company, it broke off all Chinese ties before launching Battlegrounds Mobile India in the country. ByteDance is a Chinese company, and it may have to take a different route altogether to launch TickTock in India.

The company will have to comply with the new IT rules, and all the user data has to be locally restored. At the time of the ban, TikTok had around 20 crore users in India and since then several users have shifted to alternatives and multiple such apps remain very popular till date. Instagram Reels also have captured a substantial share of the market, so ByteDance will have to place TickTock smartly to be as popular as TikTok was in 2020.
